Once There Was a Way To Get Back Home On Old School Friday

The Old School Friday Theme this week is “Thank God It’s Over”. Unfortunately for you this is not the typical apolitical Old School Friday.

I find it laughable to call the man who ran the sleaziest campaign ever honorable, a man who ran a campaign which stirred hate and invoked fear, neither lacking as it was. A fear and hate to remain stoked by the lasting embers of the fire he intentionally tended like a cheerful arsonist. In the end he pledged his support to the very man he allowed his campaign to call scary names (like Muslim, Socialist, Communist) even as he allowed his misguided VP choice to anoint their supporters “the real America”.

To this cunt calling gentleman who sneered at the plight of women in his last debate.
Good Fucking Riddance. And yes thank god it’s over.

I give you the Thank God It’s Over choice for me.

Taken from Obsidian Wings a blog I’ve read on and off since I was an undergrad, from the “not real Americans” in the East Village – Manhattan. (NYC, for you “real Americans” out there)

On a more upbeat note, sort of.

Dear Mr President Elect, thank god it’s over because I’ve got a long list for ya. Best of luck.

Peace

Old School Friday brought to you as always by Miss Marv and Mrs Grapevine.

The contest will run through Saturday, if you haven’t entered. 37 entries with only one correct color so far, and that was the first entry.

Cheers

  1. I’m wondering what your take is on the whole proposition 8 protest over here in California is, Miss Cooper?

For me, that was almost the bigger concern because the Presidency seemed locked up and yet the debate still rages here. I don’t know–it may be a simple analysis of the situation, but it feels like even as the country as a whole may have gotten more tolerant several states seem to be marching towards becoming even more intolerant.

    • Obviously a lot of money was spend by Mormons and others to proliferate false information. There were clearly other props around the country with very similar intents which passed. At least I’m not worried about the Supreme Country any longer.

  2. “I Want It That Way”

    Yeah

    You are my fire
    The one desire
    Believe when I say
    I want it that way

But we are two worlds apart
    Can’t reach to your heart
    When you say
That I want it that way

    Tell me why
    Ain’t nothin’ but a heartache
    Tell me why
    Ain’t nothin’ but a mistake
    Tell me why
I never wanna hear you say
    I want it that way

    ;))

I do think yer Election needs a major overhaul – $5 Billion Dollars + over 2 Years wasted on this thing is completely Insane* The $$$ Money wasted on Repetitive Ads is beyond a Joke*

Don’t even get me started on the $3.9 Million the Catholic Church spent on NO against Prop 2 in Michigan against Embryonic Stem Cell Research – all i can say is that Bishop should be very Happy it Passed or he would be meeting his Phony maker* ;)) just sayin…………

  3. To McCain’s credit – I don’t think he’s as bad as Bush/Cheney/Rove.

Now you have me curious about the contest. I know I sent my entry in pretty quickly. But I can’t imagine there could be that many wrong colors.

  4. I agree. I am finding it hard to respect McCain. He has changed his position on so many issues so many times. He ran a disgraceful and stupid campaign. And he threatened our safety with the Palin pick. I’ll say thanks for a nice concession speech and leave it at that, thank you. So Cooper, you are again right on the money.

And speaking of money, I hope that’s on your Obama wish list. Specifically, finding a way to get some of our money back. Cause it ain’t been a good year.

    • It has been a really bad year, it’s going to get worse I imagine.

Yea that list is quite long.

I don’t think Santa is coming any time soon.

  5. I think McCain’s fatal mistake was selling his soul to the Rove branch of the party in a desperate attempt to win. From what I read, they’re the ones who forced Palin on him, and that’s when the rhetoric started to really devolve into the slimy appeals to people’s worse natures. I sat at the campaign office in Parma, OH on Tuesday between canvassing trips and watched the RNC run a Jeremiah Wright ad … something McCain said he’d never do. Good riddance is right! Great songs/clips 🙂

  6. There was dancing on the streets here too, wish I had recorded it.

I’m glad you said it. I was getting a little tired of all that honorable man stuff the media was putting out. When you sell your soul to the devil you don’t get it back that easily, if at all.

Carry That Weight. You’re not kidding.

  7. I’m having real problems not gloating. Then I think I should
I actually read the two posts I wrote since the election to see if called McCain honorable as in once he might have been. Once a long long time ago
Bringing Palin in was especially classless and pandering to a group that doesn’t really exist anymore

His campaign was run on hate and hate ain’t ever honorable

I keep replaying Tuesday night in my head

The theme for this week is incredibly apt

I wish I could believe it completely. I keep waiting for the recount

Someday it will sink in that Cheney and Rove especially and the eight year pretender to the presidency are powerless but it hasn’t yet

I thought about ten more colors the dress can be. I’m very into color

    • I’m not so sure that group doesn’t exist especially after seeing some of the props that passed.

No recount this time, thank god. It is just do strange that in this technologically advanced age we can’t come up with a simple crisp and secure voting method.

  8. I definitely feel you on McCain. Although his concession speech was fine and hit all the right marks, it was far, far too late. As you point out, he ran an incredibly ugly campaign. But now he’s gone and he ain’t comin back, so I’m putting him in my rear view mirror and heading off in the opposite direction.

Really liked your East Village video. Great message there.

  9. You won’t get me to disagree with this.

He sold his soul to the devil and lost both his soul and the election. Maybe a deal for eternal youth would have been a better bet.

Love that Village Video. At least they can’t stop The “Not Real Americans” from singing that song.

    • You may have something with that eternal youth thing.

Maybe a picture like that of Dorian Grey, to remind him of the effects his acts would have upon his soul would have been a good idea.

  10. Both of your selections are right on the money. I also agree with your statements on the ‘sleaziest’ campaign ever. I’ve never seen such a blatantly hateful campaign. And I hope I never see one like it again.

  11. On Nadar, I see eye to eye with you on this.

As for McCain, I wanted to think otherwise and did in the beginning, but selling the soul to the devil is an appropriate term at the finish line.

Traveling throughout the world like I do for my line of work I see and hear things people here do not see or hear. I don’t know if people here understand the significance of this choice to the rest of the world. The world is smaller than we think.

The country is a mess. It will get worse in the next two months.

My tears of joy will come when Bush steps out of that office for the final time.

That Weight the President Elect will be carrying will be almost unbearable. The song was quite appropriate in a cooper-ish.

    • An old boyfriend of mine worked with Nadar a several years ago and though it was not from that I derived my opinion what I learned of his experience and from others around here who have more intimate knowledge of him and looking historically at what he has done and what he has done and left or left undone my opinion is, I just have a bad taste when I think of Ralph Nadar. My father was also a big Nadar supporter way back in the days before cooper, so some discussion and analysis on him always took place around our dinner table.

Joe I remember you were in Tanzania and Morocco at one point, where are you now?

  12. Great minds think a lot, I chose the Star Spangled Banner, over and over again.

Paul McCartney is also a good choice, between him and all the other Beatles there are plenty of songs to chose from that would also be suitable. I like this one because it’s soulful.

  13. I love the image of the people in the street, belting out The Star Spangled Banner from their hearts…this time, feeling what it really means and living every single word…magnificent!

    Love the Paul McCartney…so apropos…

  14. Wow, I was feeling the feeling in your opening. Just felt the LOVE for Mccain. Evil incarnate.

That Star Spangled Banner could not have more meaning could it? I got goosebumps – great pick.

  15. You neednt worry about Prop 8 – the fight will continue and to put your mind at ease, we have Miz B at the front lines. She is at a rally this evening in San Francisco with her kids to fight for equality for everyone! I am there in spirit~!

You would’ve loved being here in Santa Cruz as they announced the Pres Elect, people filled the streets of downtown, honking horns and strangers hugging strangers… they too also felt the relief and hope that followed the results

    • I l eft DC for the day though I had thought of staying I had friends expected. The streets outside my window were not placed but they were crowded and we did walk to the park which was full of celebration as were most of he bars all within walking distance of my place.

Santa Cruz sounds like it would have been a blast.

I think you all need to keep that church money away from your state. Pathetic. More church money spent spreading lies.

  16. oh my… she wrote the C word!!

Needn’t worry about M, L or P ever again. They cooked their own gooses. And are not far from getting goosed by the voters.

    Pardoning my visual, of course.

  17. I think Palin will be back sooner rather rather than later. It’s a pretty pathetic blaming game they are playing now making them look ever more foolish.

What so now you’re a cow?

    • moo.

it’s been there for some time, at least a year. the avatar does not show up if I’m not signed in to wordpress.

      notice the kitty?

  18. Great choices! Especially the SSB!
I think Palin should go back to Alaska and crawl back under the rock mccain found her under, never to return here again…

  19. Yes thank god it’s over, onward to a new and at least honest era. Love you mad girl.

President John F. Kennedy has an eternal flame to mark his grave site, I think it is perfectly befitting to mark the grave site of our worst president ever with a urinal as this will probabally take care of the most prevailent urge of visitors.

Stay well girl, we all love you!

    • He isn’t dead yet KAK, except for that “you’re dead to me” way. 😉

Nice to see you. You must have stopped holding your breath. 😉

  20. A friend asked me a few weeka ago if I thougth Obama would make it and if we’d finally move into a new era of change for the plent and human rights, etc. I told her that the change was already happening even though things look dark and evil with McCain and Palin and that I prayed Obama made it, but even if he didn’t I could literally feel a shift in planetary energy.

Now the key is that we ALL keep up the good fight for the planet, human rights, animal rights, etc. And that we all speak out, sign peititions, start petitions, join CARE2 or other orgs and GET INVOLVED and STAY involved.

And we all must pray and for Obama’s safe keeping.

Thank you, you beautiful caring wise soul!!!
    Hugs,
    Robin
